
Getting Your SACMI Rotary Blow Molders Up to Speed
In high-speed PET production, everything happens in a blink. The time it takes for a preform to hit the oven and move into the blow mold is measured in milliseconds. If your IR lamps are sluggish and take too long to hit the right temperature, you’re going to see it in the final product—thin walls, weird pearlescence, and a lot of wasted plastic. That’s why we built these replacement bulbs. We wanted to kill that lag. The secret is in the response time. We tweaked the tungsten filament and the gas pressure inside the quartz to cut down on “thermal inertia.” In plain English? The bulbs heat up faster. Instead of a slow climb, you get a sharp, aggressive spike of heat exactly when the preform passes through. We also focused on short-wave IR. It digs deeper into the PET material much faster than the long-wave stuff, so the plastic actually gets hot where it needs to be. No fuss, no rewiring. Nobody wants to spend their weekend rewiring a machine. We used high-purity fused quartz so the tubes don’t bow or warp when things get hot, and we used standard connectors. You just pop them in and they work. Plus, we added a specific coating to make sure the heat goes into the resin, not into your machine frame. It’s about putting the energy where it actually does something. A quick heads-up on the trade-off. Look, these lamps pack a punch. Because they ramp up so quickly, they put a bit more stress on the filament during those start-stop cycles. To keep them from burning out, double-check your power controllers. If you’ve got voltage spikes during startup, you’ll kill the bulbs prematurely. And do your fans a favor—keep them clean. These tubes put out a lot of heat, and you want that air moving.
