
Making Your PET Blowing Machine Actually Work With Any Lamp
If you’re running a PET blowing line—SIPA or whatever else—you know the drill. The shortwave infrared (SWIR) lamps are the heart of the operation. If they aren’t heating those preforms just right, everything else falls apart. We didn’t want to make just another “specialized” part. We wanted to make lamps that just work. That’s why ours fit over 95% of the machines out there. We stopped overcomplicating things and focused on the three things that actually keep a plant running: the power, the size, and the heat.
Let’s talk power
Industrial blow molding is brutal on equipment. Whether you’re on 230V or 400V, the wattage has to be spot on for your oven’s power density. Take a 2500W tube. It hits those thick-walled preforms hard and fast. You get a rapid ramp-up, which is great for your cycle times. But here’s the catch: that much heat puts a lot of stress on your reflectors. If your reflectors are pitted or looking oxidized, it doesn’t matter how powerful the lamp is—you’re just wasting energy.
The nuts and bolts
We use high-purity quartz and halogen gas. Why? Because we don’t want your filaments burning out every two weeks. We also tune the coatings. You don’t want the plastic to just scorch on the surface; you need the heat to actually sink into the material. As for the fit, we stick with R7s and Sk15 connectors. They’re the old reliable of the industry. They snap in tight, which means no arcing and no nasty carbon buildup on your contacts. Plus, we keep them in stock. No one wants to wait weeks for an OEM part while a machine sits idle.
Putting them to work
Swapping these in is pretty painless. Since we match the exact length and diameter of the originals, you don’t have to mess around with your lamp holders or “modify” anything. Just wire them up, calibrate your PID controllers, and you’re good to go. Just a heads-up: make sure your cooling fans are up to the task. These high-output tubes put out a lot of ambient heat, and you don’t want to cook your electronics.
