Why You Should Ditch the Old Bathroom Heat Lamps
Let’s be honest: those old-school bathroom heat lamps are kind of a joke. They use these massive, power-hungry bulbs that spend more time making the room bright as a stadium than actually keeping you warm. Plus, they aren’t exactly built for the steam and splashes of a real shower. That’s why everyone is switching to high-IP infrared (IR) heaters. They’re built specifically for the damp, foggy reality of a bathroom. The secret is in how they heat. Most heaters try to warm up the air. But in a bathroom? That warm air just floats away or disappears through the vent. It’s a waste. Infrared is different. It doesn’t care about the air; it goes straight for you. It’s like stepping into a beam of sunlight on a cold day. You feel the warmth the second you flip the switch. No waiting around shivering while the room slowly catches up. But what about the water? This is the part where things usually go wrong. If you put a basic heater in a bathroom, the steam eventually finds a way inside. It eats away at the wires or shorts out the system. Not great. The high-IP rated units fix this with tight seals and gaskets. They basically lock the electronics in a vault so the steam can’t get to them. It’s the only way to make sure you aren’t constantly tripping your circuit breaker. The nuts and bolts of it Most of these use quartz glass tubes. Why quartz? Because it can handle the shock of going from ice-cold to scorching hot in a heartbeat without cracking. They usually add a mirrored coating to the back, too, which pushes all that heat down toward you instead of letting it soak into the ceiling. One thing to watch out for: these things gethot. Like, really hot. You can’t just slap them anywhere. If they’re too low, you’ll burn yourself. Too high, and you won’t feel a thing. It’s all about finding that sweet spot with your ceiling height and wattage so it feels just right.
